First bird (first 3 pictures): The clues to why I don't think this is a juvenile Lesser Black-backed Gull are: Dark shadow around the eye Head already noticably pale Moult also already commenced on breast and belly Long legs Obvious pale inner webs to inner primaries The date is too early for LBBG - they don't fledge for another 2 or 3 weeks. The bill is disappointingly light-weight for a michahellis though.
2nd bird (bottom picture) By coincidence, David Walker kindly sent a picture of a juvenile michahellis on the same day at Dungeness. This bird shows a more unusual greater covert pattern, but a more typical bill.
