For a moment, when I first saw this bird, I thought it was a female Garganey, paired with a regular drake Teal. The bird shows (hints of) several Garganey traits, including the cheek line, white spot at base of bill, angular head and longish spatulate bill. I guess it's just an odd Teal, but female Green-winged Teal is sometimes said to have traits resembling Garganey.
