This is not only a remarkable thing to see over the continental shelf, while heading south at 6.30 in the evening, but it also demonstrates the advantage of 6 million pixels in the Canon D60. The lower picture shows the original frame in the camera. Not only is it identifiable as a crossbill, it clearly is a male Common Crossbill.
