If this 2CY bird were seen in the UK, it would probably be passed off as a northern Scandinavian Herring Gull, argentatus. However, this is in Portugal where the local Yellow-legged Gulls are highly variable and argentatus is very scarce. This bird is rather more extreme than all the other Herring Gull look-alikes present, and may indeed be argentatus.
