These birds were from a mixed flock of about 150 Siskins, 30 Goldfinches and 50 Redpolls, about half of these were Lessers and half Mealies (Common Redpolls). We believe the five below are all Mealies and illustrate a range of supporting features including:
Bull neck, largish bill, longish tail.
Lack of buff tones, especially on the face, flanks and under-tail coverts.
Frosty edgings to tertials, primaries and tail feathers.
Wing bars more white than buff.
More contrasting pale rump.
