This bird, seen with a Slaty-backed Gull, was seen by John Oates and Richard Patient.
Description:
Back - midway between smithsonianus and vegae
Bill - not limey - yellow with red gonydeal spot
Legs - pink, deeper than argentatus, in fact like glaucoides
Iris - looked dark from a distance, but definitely yellowish when seen closer
Wings - the visible underside of P10 appeared pure white (this shows clearly in the original photographs)
Upperside - venetian blind effect of pale greyish on the inner web to primaries (similar to that shown by adult Caspian Gull (cachinnans))

Comments on the identification of this bird would be welcome.
