Swifts first took interest in a hole in the brickwork in 2002. We failed to attract them into a pair of simple nest-boxes, so in 2004 we installed the first cabinet and a single pair took up occupancy in that summer, but did not breed. In 2005 we installed the second and 3rd cabinets. A second pair took up residence in 2005, followed by a 3rd in 2007 and a 4th in 2008.
2009: 4 pairs bred, we had a webcam in one box, in which 2 chicks were reared, and 5 pairs occupied new boxes, 3 of which built a nest.
Here's hoping for at least 7 breeding pairs in 2010. These Swifts appeared on the BBC East Inside Out television program in October 2009, now available on Youtube
2010: 8 boxes occupied and we believe that 6 pairs bred. Of the 7 pairs that built a nest in 2009, we believe that one pair moved to another box, as well as one newly established pair.
2013: 6 boxes occupied (A2, A6, A8, B2, A2, A5)
2014 8 boxes occupied (A2,A5, A6, B2, C2,C5) of which 6 pairs bred.
